DIY Morning Bowl Mix Recipe

While I usually pride myself on sharing quick fixes, today’s Chia-Quinoa Morning Mix does require a bit of prep time. But fret not! The result is a creamy, delicious, filling, and comforting breakfast that’s well worth the effort. So, if you’re a fan of a warm treat in the morning, get ready for a delightful culinary experience.

The Magic of Chia-Quinoa Morning Mix

What makes this breakfast special is its simplicity and adaptability. With just a bit of preparation, you can enjoy a wholesome meal in the morning with minimal effort. The basic recipe is a foundation for endless possibilities, allowing you to experiment with different fruits, grains, and spices. For this version, I’ve focused on infusing holiday flavours and colours into the mix, adding a festive touch to your morning routine.

Ingredients (Makes 12 Servings):

  • 3 cups (240 g) rolled oats
  • 1 cup (180 g) quinoa
  • 1 cup (160 g) dried cranberries or cherries
  • ½ cup (90 g) hemp, flax, or chia seeds (or a combo!)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (or pumpkin pie spice mix!)
  • ¾ tsp sea salt
  • Optional: maple syrup, Greek yogurt, and/or shelled pistachios (as topping)

How to Prepare the Mix:

  1. Combine all ingredients, excluding optional toppings, in a sealed airtight container.
  2. This mix can be prepared in advance, making your morning routine even smoother.

Preparing a Single Serving:

  1. In a small saucepan, stir together 295 ml of liquid (water or milk) and ⅓ cup (5½ Tbsp) of the mix.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Lower the heat to a simmer, partially cover the pan, and stir occasionally.
  4. Cook until thickened, approximately 20-30 minutes.
  5. Cover the pan completely and let it stand for 5 minutes.
  6. Spoon the mixture into a serving bowl and add optional toppings and sweeteners according to your taste.
